Jeff Perry: Bio

Jeff Perry

Music Educator, Arranger, Trumpet and Electric Bass

I have been playing music since age 9, trumpet is my first instrument and I picked up electric bass in college. I majored in jazz arranging in college, jazz composition for my master’s degree, and I love Rock and Roll.

I teach music for Berklee College of Music – the Contemporary Writing and Production Department and Berkleemusic.com – Arranging (online), and most recently I have been running the Music Technology Room at Roland Hayes School of Music in Roxbury as a part of the City-Music Community Outreach Program at Berklee. I also teach trumpet lessons at Music Maker Studios.

I was made to be a music teacher; I truly love teaching music to people of all ages. I also get time to perform music periodically, I am a freelance trumpet player in the New England area, and I get the pleasure of performing with my wife, on bass… she is a singer/songwriter.

My personal feeling for any student that wants to learn music -- it should be FUN! My philosophy for the beginning student: keep it simple, learn music that you want to play, and HAVE FUN! The rest will fall into place ... that said, it does take a lot of hard work, but that does not mean we can't have fun, right!

I have released three cd’s as a leader:
The Jeff Perry Quintet – Andersonville (1998)
Jeff Perry – Foundation (2003)
Jeff Perry/Gregg Brennan – Music for Brass and Percussion (2005)

And as a sideman for Jes Perry – Clearing My Head (2002)
Hot of the presses - Carl Perry (my father) - Sounds from my Soul, Music for the Native American Flute (2006)

Major influences are Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix. My favorite musicians are constantly changing, currently I am in a major jazz and trumpet music phase.
