Every once in a while, I work with a client whose story perfectly captures what it means to live and lead intentionally.
This is one of those stories.
The Challenge
A few months ago, an engineer came to me feeling stuck. He had been in his career for about four to five years and had already held a couple of roles.
But neither of them felt like the right fit.
He really wanted to go deeper into highly technical work, but had thus far been stuck in an industry and doing generalist work he wasn’t as interested in. He also knew he was being underpaid compared to peers at his level.
More than anything, he wanted to pivot – to do something more meaningful, ideally in the sustainability industry.
The problem?
He didn’t think it was possible. With a degree in mechanical engineering and experience in civil work, he saw his background as “too mixed” to break into sustainability.
The Breakthrough
We started by working on the foundation – his mindset.
After facing a few tough setbacks, his confidence had taken a hit. Before we even talked about applications or interviews, we rebuilt his belief in what was possible.
Then we refined his story – how to communicate his strengths, transferable skills, and unique value in interviews.
He went through a few opportunities:
- One interview that didn’t pan out.
- Another offer that looked good on paper but didn’t feel like the right fit.
He made the intentional choice to say no – and that decision made all the difference.
Soon after, another opportunity appeared. This time, in sustainability. We prepped thoroughly – framing his diverse background as a strength, not a liability.
And he nailed it.
He got the offer – and with it, a $30,000 salary increase.
The Transformation
When we wrapped up our work together, he told me:
“I couldn’t have done this without the focused support I received through your program.”
But what stood out most wasn’t just the new role or the pay raise.
It was his confidence.
He went from uncertain and hesitant to bold, clear, and empowered.
Your Turn
If you see yourself in this story – feeling stuck, undervalued, or unsure how to move forward – know this: You don’t have to stay there.
Through my Engineering Career Accelerator program, I help professionals just like you clarify their direction, communicate their value, and move intentionally toward the career they want.
If that sounds like what you need right now, I’d love to chat and explore how we can help you get to the other side – confident, aligned, and ready for what’s next.ve intentionally.
