Why I’m No Longer Calling Myself “Just a Career Coach for Engineers”

I want to be real with you about something.

I’m done calling myself just a career coach for engineers.

For a long time, that’s how I introduced what I did. It was simple, clear, and easy for people to understand.

But it was also far too small.

Because what I do—and what I care about doing—goes much deeper than helping someone update a résumé or land a job.

Let me explain.

I’m Not a Career Coach. I’m a Career and Life Transformation Partner.

When people ask, “What do you do?” I now introduce myself as a career and leadership development expert.

Why?

Because the work I do with engineers and technical leaders goes far beyond surface-level career moves.

Sure, I help people:

• Land new roles
• Earn promotions
• Negotiate higher salaries
  

But those are outcomes—not the real transformation.

The real win is internal.

It’s when someone rediscovers who they are. What they value. What they truly want from life and work. What they’re capable of becoming.

Again and again, I’ve watched engineers go from:

• Stuck → clear
• Scared → confident
• Misaligned → deeply aligned
• Disengaged → intentional and energized
  

This work isn’t just about careers. It’s about identity, purpose, confidence, and growth.

The Most Powerful Feedback Isn’t From Clients—It’s From Their Families

Some of the most meaningful messages I’ve ever received come from spouses and partners.

Things like:

• “I have my husband back.”
•  “She’s happier than I’ve seen her in years.”
•  “Our home life has completely changed.”

That’s when I know the work is bigger than job hunting or résumé writing.

It’s life-changing.

If You Only Want a Résumé, I’m Not Your Guy

If someone comes to me saying, “I just want a résumé update.”

I often say no.

Not because résumés aren’t important—they are. But because the résumé is never the root issue.

Clarity is. Confidence is. Identity is. Alignment is. Purpose is.

I help people build careers in the context of becoming who they’re capable of being—in their work, their relationships, and their life as a whole.

If that’s not what someone wants, that’s totally fine. But if it is what they want, they’re in the right place.

This Work Is About Transformation, Not Tweaks

The engineers and leaders I work with aren’t just shifting jobs.
