“It’s not what you achieve, it’s what you overcome. That’s what defines your career.” – Carlton Fisk
Have you ever felt stuck? Trapped in a situation where you could not freely do what you want and you just keep on doing the same thing over and over again? If you haven’t yet, you will likely find yourself in a place like this at some point in your career – it’s just a matter of “when?”
There are numerous reasons why you could get into a situation like this.
There might be external factors, such as the people you interact with and the environment/culture you are currently in.
There are also internal factors, such as fear of failure or being out of your comfort zone.
What’s really holding you back in your career? Some things are in your control, some are not.
Whether it is internal or external factors that seem to be the trouble, you then need to consider – what can you do about it?
So identify what you can do and start taking action!
Don’t wait for someone to empower you, empower yourself! Give yourself credit, and embrace that you can take responsibility to get out of a situation that no longer serves you.
View this setback as an opportunity to address and think of ways to improve your current situation. Reflect on the skills that you currently have then enhance them. Use it as leverage to elevate yourself in your career path.
This shift in mindset goes a long way.
