Trying to Make a Personal Change? Do This First…

“If you change the belief first, changing the action is easier.” – Peter McWilliams

Have you ever tried to change something in your life – a habit, a regular practice, or learn a new skill, and yet it always seems like you get pulled back to the old way of doing things? Almost like there is an invisible force holding you back.

Yeah, me too.

Change is hard. If you are someone with goals and dreams, you are probably always trying to change or improve in some area of your life.

But the question is, how do you make this change sustainable?

Common practice that the majority does is to prescribe attitudes and behaviors to address the need for change. However, this could be temporary in a way that it only applies to certain situations or could be an external change that is not really consistent with your goals for sustainability.

Sustainable change starts from within. You can begin with some introspection, and closely examine and analyze your mindset, personality, actions, and motivations. Work to understand your inner thoughts and your intent in why you do what you do.

What can help you with this goal is to identify the “If-Then” statements that you believe. For example – you might believe that if you delegate work to other team members, then the quality of the work goes down. But is that actually true?

This belief hinders you from properly delegating work which is unhealthy on your end. It holds you back, and holds your team back. But the way through becoming a better delegator isn’t just through delegating more tasks and hoping for the best. You need to address this driving belief and mindset.

If you can change your mindset, the change becomes more sustainable!

If you are in need of help to move through this process, I’d love to talk and see how I can help!
