It’s hard to believe, but it’s been two years since I published my first book, The Intentional Engineer.
And in this post, I want to share a bit more of the story behind it: Why I wrote it, what it means to me, and what it’s meant to those who’ve read it.
How It Started
I don’t remember the exact moment I decided to write a book. For a long time it was one of those “someday†goals.
“Someday, I’ll write a book.â€
But like most “somedays,†it sat on the back burner for years. Until a few mentors challenged me.
They asked, “Hey, when are you actually going to write that book?†That question stuck.
By then, I already had the idea for The Intentional Engineer—I’d even outlined it. But I hadn’t committed.
Combine that invitation with the fact that I had an upcoming event where I was scheduled to speak, and I decided: I’m going to launch the book there. That vision became my fuel.
The Process
The thing is – that event where I wanted to have my book – was only about 3 months away.
Luckily, I found a book coach and an editor to help me make it happen. My coach had a plan and a workbook to do just what I wanted to do – write and publish a book in 90 days.
It sounded ambitious, but I followed the process:
- Month 1: Write.
- Month 2: Edit.
- Month 3: Publish.
And by the time that event arrived, I had the first copies of The Intentional Engineer in hand. It was surreal—standing on stage, holding something that had lived in my head in some form for years.
The Impact
Since then, the response has been humbling. I’ve heard from readers all over the world – Africa, Europe, Australia, the U.S., and Canada – sharing how the book helped them find more clarity, purpose, and alignment in their careers.
And recently, at an engineering technology conference, I received a Distinguished Literary Contributions Award for the book.
Now, it even has an award seal on the cover – a small but meaningful symbol of how far it’s come.
Why It Still Matters
When I wrote The Intentional Engineer, my goal wasn’t just to share strategies – it was to create something principles-based and at least somewhat timeless.
Because while technology changes, the principles of living and leading with intention don’t.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that intentionality doesn’t happen by accident. It’s a choice – one we make every day.
A Personal Invitation
Whether you’ve read the book or not, I want to invite you to take a moment to reflect: How can you become a little more intentional – today, this week, and in your career moving forward?
And if I can help you or your team on that journey – through coaching, retreats, or leadership development – I’d love to connect.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me.
Here’s to continuing to grow, learn, and live intentionally.
